I have always had a strong appreciation of music, studying the Piano from 6 years of age and later learning the guitar and bass guitar. Originally planning to study optometry after I left high school, I spent few years playing in a local Melbourne rock band; and it became clear that my interests were definitely in Music and I was lead to discover Audio Engineering.
In ’01 I completed a “Certificate IV in Sound Production” at RMIT before volunteering time at the historical Metropolis Audio, which quickly lead to me becoming one of the in-house assistant engineers.
During this time I was fortunate to receive a traditional studio apprenticeship, working along side some of Melbourne’s original great engineers such as Doug Brady, Ernie Rose and Ross Cockle. I spent many years learning my craft from many national and international producers, engineers and songwriters.
It didn’t take long before I became trusted as one of the few in-house engineers, recording demos and E.P.s with many young up and coming bands; as well as working with some of Australia’s highest profile artists.
Since the sad closing of Metropolis in ’06, I now work as a freelance recording engineer. This involuntary move has been a great step forward and has allowed me to experience some of the other great studios around Melbourne, such as Sing Sing and River Studios.
Over the last few years I have worked with some high profile national and international artists including John Farnham, Delta Goodrem, Mark Vincent, Daddy Cool, Daryl Braithwaite, Jack Vidgen, Olivia Newton-John, Renee Geyer, David Campbell, Melinda Schneider, Natalie Bassingthwaite, Glenn Shorrock, The Wrights, Mark Seymour, and Guy Sebastian. I have also worked with many bands and artists from the local Melbourne music scene including Template, Elsewhere, Natalie Gauchi (Idol ’07), Art Of Fighting, The Nation Blue, Taxiride, Gus and Frank, The Restless, Ann-Marita, Zodiac Smith, The Anyones and Director.
I have a broad taste in music and enjoy recording and mixing all styles. My musical background and extensive knowledge of Digital recording, and editing, has lead to various programming and production credits. I have also had experience in the television side of music, having been a part of the music team of the X Factor series in 2005 and 2011, working directly with John Foreman and Australian Idol finalists, engineering for channel 7’s “It Takes 2″and “Australia’s Got Talent” and also recording the AFI nominated score for the Geoffrey Wright directed film “MacBeth 2006”.
I also work closely with Chong Lim a noted Producer and Musical Director, with whom I have had the opportunity to record many of Australia’s best session musicians.
With Chong I have been able to record and mix many ARIA charting albums, and also travel to and work in Malaysia and Bali on international festivals and theatre productions.
